The 19 Heroes

"Every name spoken is a vow kept. Every story told is a second death denied."

These are the 19 American soldiers who gave their lives during the Battle of Mogadishu, Somalia, on October 3–4, 1993. They came from Delta Force, the 75th Ranger Regiment, the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, and the 10th Mountain Division. They were brothers in arms.

At Queenslake Horse Farm, each hero has a permanent memorial station along the course. Runners pause at every station to read their name and story aloud. Click any hero below to read their full story — and to see the memorial that stands in their honor in the Kentucky woods.
