Chief Warrant Officer 3 Clifton Wolcott was the pilot of Super Six-One — the first Black Hawk helicopter shot down over Mogadishu. Born at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Wolcott has a special connection to the Queenslake community. He was 36 years old when his helicopter was struck by an RPG and crashed into the streets of Mogadishu, igniting the 18-hour battle. His Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with Valor Device honor a career of exceptional airmanship and courage. As a Kentucky-born hero, his memorial at Queenslake carries special significance.
