Sergeant Dominick Pilla was a Ranger from Vineland, New Jersey, killed during the initial convoy assault in Mogadishu. He was 21 years old. His death came early in the battle, as the convoy was taking fire while attempting to reach the target building. His Bronze Star with Valor Device honors his courage. Dominick Pilla's memorial at Queenslake is among the 19 permanent stations where runners pause to read his name and story — ensuring his second death never comes.
