Sergeant Lorenzo Ruiz was a Ranger from El Paso, Texas, mortally wounded on the Lost Convoy during the Battle of Mogadishu. He was 27 years old. His Bronze Star with Valor Device recognizes the courage he demonstrated in the chaos of urban combat. Lorenzo Ruiz represented the diversity and dedication of the American military — a soldier who gave everything for his country and his fellow Rangers. His memorial at Queenslake stands in the Kentucky woods as a permanent tribute to his sacrifice.
